How to Make Nastar Cookies in English and Indonesian Language
What is Nastar?
Nastar is a type of Indonesian traditional cookies, shaped like small pineapple tart. In Indonesia, people usually make it in big batches during festive seasons, such as Eid ul-Fitr, Christmas, and Chinese New Year. It is a popular snack for tea time or for gifts.
Ingredients for Nastar
To make Nastar cookies, you will need:
- 250 gram all-purpose flour
- 200 gram butter
- 150 gram granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoon of water
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 50 gram of grated cheese
- 200 gram of pineapple jam
Instructions to Make Nastar
Step 1: Mix the dry ingredients
In a medium bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and granulated sugar. Add the grated cheese and mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
Step 2: Make the dough
In a large bowl, add the butter, egg, water, and vanilla extract. Use an electric mixer to beat the ingredients until they are light and creamy. Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until all the ingredients are well combined. Divide the dough into two parts. Wrap each part with plastic wrap and store them in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Step 3: Roll out the dough
Take one part of the dough out of the refrigerator and roll it out on a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough into small circles with a cookie cutter. Place the circles on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Step 4: Fill the cookies
Fill each circle with a teaspoon of pineapple jam. Place another cut out circle on top of the jam and press the edges together to seal it. Prick the top of each cookie with a fork.
Step 5: Bake the cookies
Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 10-12 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack before serving.
